OUR HISTORY

A long story. Still being written.

Since 1740, faith and community have shaped this corner of Bedminster. We learn from the past as we work toward God’s future.

Roots that run deep.

    A sanctuary for the community

The sanctuary that remains central to Lamington’s identity is built.

  3. 1854

    A steeple on the skyline

The steeple is added, becoming a familiar landmark in Bedminster.

  4. 1885

    A move to higher ground

The church is moved across the street to higher ground.

  5. 1889

    Music for generations

The Hook and Hastings organ arrives. Its music continues to be part of worship today.

  6. 1918

    A schoolhouse takes shape

The schoolhouse is built. It becomes a church school in 1963 and is later renovated for community use.

PLACES OF REMEMBRANCE

Remembering the whole story.

The Lamington Road cemetery holds the stories of former pastors, Revolutionary soldiers, and veterans of 19th-century wars. The newer cemetery section and Memorial Garden remain places of remembrance.

The cemetery on Cowperthwaite Road dates to the 19th century and includes enslaved and free Black members of the congregation. Their lives are part of Lamington’s history.

We are grateful to the Morristown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for helping restore historic gravestones.
